Mid-level iOS Engineer

This is a full-time, mid-career iOS engineering role based in Tokyo. The engineer designs, develops, and operates new and improved features for the company’s iOS application. Responsibilities cover the product lifecycle from planning and implementation through release, measurement, and ongoing improvement.

The work includes strengthening the Tabering feature, which helps users visualize daily behavior; planning and developing a diet mode that supports daily calorie-balance tracking; and improving the registration flow to enhance the initial user experience. The engineer uses user feedback to form hypotheses, discusses which mechanisms and expressions may help users continue their behavior, and contributes directly to implementation. Data analysis, A/B testing, and review of user feedback are also part of the work.

Development is organized around both larger feature additions and continuous user-experience improvements. Larger initiatives are shaped through discussions with the CEO and members of different disciplines and are conducted several times a year. Smaller improvement projects are initiated by engineers and can make significant changes to the user experience. Engineers lead projects without a director role, participating in planning, implementation, release, and impact measurement.

The service is available through web and mobile applications and provides more than 12,000 dietitian-reviewed recipes. It supports more than 80 diseases and life stages, including diabetes, kidney disease, and dyslipidemia. Other product functions include meal-plan suggestions based on individual nutritional standards and tracking for weight, blood pressure, and blood glucose. The iOS engineer works with Android and web engineers, designers, registered dietitians, editors, machine-learning specialists, and data scientists.

The stated workflow uses Notion to organize problems, hypotheses, KPIs, and user feedback; Figma for wireframes and UX design; spreadsheets and Notion for estimation and implementation planning; GitHub and Notion for task management; TestFlight for internal testing; BigQuery and Firebase for log analysis; and Notion and Scrapbox for recording lessons. The iOS team includes a senior engineer responsible for CI/CD preparation and technology selection. New team members initially join an existing project through implementation and gradually gain lead experience, with a skill map and one-on-one meetings used to clarify development goals.
