Obayashi is a general contractor established in 1936. Its domestic building business constructs offices, condominiums, commercial facilities, factories, hospitals and schools, and its civil engineering business builds tunnels, bridges, dams, river works, railways and expressways. Group companies carry out building and civil works in Southeast Asia, North America and Oceania.
Beyond construction, it offers engineering for industrial facilities, develops and leases urban property and generates renewable power from solar, wind, biomass and geothermal sources, alongside green hydrogen demonstration projects. Headquartered in Konan, Minato, Tokyo, Obayashi had 9,472 employees as of March 2026.
