Engineering Manager

Mantra is a global AI startup on a mission to 'deliver manga in the world's languages', researching AI, manga translation and language-learning services. It provides Mantra Engine, a B2B cloud service for manga translation, and works with publishers and distributors on entertainment's overseas expansion. The B2B development team (currently one full-timer plus contractors) is expanding, and lacks members with EM/tech-lead experience, so Mantra seeks an Engineering Manager to lead it. Scope: people management (managing 3+ engineers, 1-on-1s, goal-setting, evaluation, feedback, growth/career support, recruiting); project management (planning and managing development projects, optimizing scope/schedule/resources, identifying technical challenges and solutions, stakeholder communication); technology strategy and organizational development (aligning business objectives with technology, designing and improving development processes and structures, participating in technology-selection and architecture decisions, cross-team knowledge management); and cross-departmental collaboration with business, product and R&D teams, making and implementing proposals from an engineering perspective.
