The role involves addressing complex challenges and developing scalable architecture and operational designs.
This role is seconded to PayPay Bank, Japan's first internet-only bank, to lead its data engineering function within the PayPay Group. Responsibilities include designing, building, and operating data ingestion pipelines using Databricks, AWS DMS, and Terraform; developing large-scale data processing workflows with Spark, Python, and SQL; building data lakehouse and data catalog platforms on Databricks Lakehouse and Unity Catalog; and designing data governance capabilities covering data quality, metadata management, lineage, access control, and audit logging. The role also covers SRE and observability practices for data platforms, infrastructure-as-code automation via Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines, while partnering with product, analytics, risk, security, and compliance teams under the security, auditability, and regulatory requirements expected of a financial institution. Requirements include 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar, hands-on work with data lakes/warehouses/lakehouses, Spark/Databricks/Delta Lake, Python/PySpark/SQL, workflow orchestration tools (Airflow/Dagster/Prefect), AWS, and Terraform-based infrastructure. Business-level Japanese (native-level or JLPT N1/N2) is required; business-level English is a plus. This is a hybrid, full-time position.
