This Lead Engineer role sits on freee's HR product development team, working on the company's talent management and employee benefits SaaS lines (freee Performance Review, freee Survey, freee E-Learning, freee Employee Benefits), with opportunities to also contribute to the larger-scale freee HR Labor Management product. Responsibilities include feature planning, design, implementation, testing, measurement, and improvement across these products; research and investigation of new and core technologies; working with product managers and UX researchers, including user interviews; ongoing operational development such as CI/CD and infrastructure operations; and external communication with OEM product partners. The role does not include work on shared platform infrastructure (e.g. authentication or billing systems) used across freee's products. Requirements: 5+ years of web service development experience, understanding of the architecture and issues of systems previously worked on, and regular use of AI tools in work or personal projects. Preferred: experience developing product features in English-speaking teams (the company has both Japanese- and English-speaking development teams), experience with Ruby on Rails, React, and/or Go, and experience driving product development with external stakeholders.
