Japan Petroleum Exploration, known as JAPEX, explores for and produces crude oil and natural gas in Japan and overseas. Its supply business combines domestic gas with imported LNG, using pipelines, receiving terminals and transport by tank trucks or railway containers.
Electric-power activities include natural-gas-fired generation and participation in biomass and solar projects. JAPEX supplies wood-pellet fuel to some biomass plants, and a subsidiary handles their asset management. It applies its exploration and production expertise to underground CO2 storage, and it had 1,670 consolidated employees as of March 31, 2026.
