Kubota Pharmaceutical Holdings

Ophthalmic Devices & Drug Development · Minato, Tokyo

Kubota Pharmaceutical Holdings, established in 2015, develops ophthalmic devices and drug candidates. Its Kubota Glass myopia-care device is offered in Japan, including through the subscription-based Kubota Glass My Vision program, while a clinical trial continues in Shanghai as it works toward medical-device approval in China. Its eyeMO is an ultra-compact mobile OCT device intended for retinal monitoring in home and remote eye care.

In drugs, it is developing emixustat hydrochloride, mainly for Stargardt disease. A Phase 3 trial begun in 2018 missed its endpoints, but a later subgroup analysis found slower progression in patients with smaller baseline atrophy. The company is based in Minami-Aoyama, Minato, Tokyo, and its US subsidiary Kubota Vision Inc. is in Seattle.
