Shionogi is a research-based pharmaceutical group that develops, manufactures and markets prescription medicines and vaccines. Its portfolio centers on infectious diseases, including influenza, COVID-19 and drug-resistant bacterial infections, with programs also in depression and sleep medicine. It serves healthcare providers and patients in Japan and overseas.
For the year ended March 2026 the group reported revenue of ¥499.7 billion, including ¥261.3 billion of royalties from ViiV Healthcare's HIV medicines and royalties on the influenza drug Xofluza, which is out-licensed to Roche. Torii Pharmaceutical joined the group in September 2025, and Shionogi acquired Japan Tobacco's pharmaceutical business on December 1, 2025.
