Shionogi

Prescription Pharmaceuticals · Vaccines · Drug Discovery · Japan

Shionogi is a research-based pharmaceutical group that develops, manufactures and markets prescription medicines and vaccines. Its portfolio centers on infectious diseases—including influenza, COVID-19 and drug-resistant bacterial infections—while also covering areas such as sleep disorders, depression and other conditions affecting quality of life. Its products serve healthcare providers and patients in Japan and overseas.

The group earns revenue from domestic prescription-drug sales, overseas sales and exports, and royalties from medicines licensed to partners, notably HIV products through ViiV Healthcare and the influenza treatment Xofluza through Roche. Shionogi expanded its domestic portfolio and small-molecule research capabilities by acquiring Torii Pharmaceutical and the pharmaceutical business of Japan Tobacco.
