Mid-to-Senior Animator

About this role

This is a mid-to-senior Animator position on the Animation Team at PlayStation Studios Team ASOBI. The role focuses on producing animation for a wide range of cartoony and mechanical characters, props, and vehicles used in games.

The animator creates high-quality hand-keyed animation, bringing creativity and humor to characters. The work requires understanding and quickly adapting to a given animation style. The role also involves working with programmers to implement character behaviors in-engine, learning the studio’s in-house animation tools and production pipeline, managing schedules, and delivering work on time.

Required qualifications include production experience in games, feature films, or VFX; in-depth knowledge of Maya; and a strong ability in hand-keyed animation. The posting also requires the ability to work quickly and efficiently, respond positively to feedback and rework, manage time effectively, and take a proactive approach to improving animation skills and speed. A positive attitude and strong communication skills are required for working as part of a team.

The position is listed as a fixed-term contract or freelance engagement and is full-time at eight hours per day. The work location is the Tokyo area. Onsite work is required during the first six months for fixed-term contracts, while remote work is available for freelancers.

The English section identifies the reporting line as the Animation Director, while the Japanese section lists the lead animator.
