About this role

Team ASOBI’s Art Team is seeking a Junior 3D Artist to create art assets for its games. The role reports to the Lead Artist and covers the production of high-quality characters, props, environments, 3D models, textures and other artistic elements needed for game development.

Day-to-day work involves creating models and textures and collaborating with members of other disciplines involved in game production. The artist is expected to learn a range of broader video-game development skills through the work and to keep an open, flexible approach to learning. Training and coaching may be provided where needed on design philosophies, cultural thinking and production techniques.

The posting accepts applicants at all experience levels and does not require previous professional game-production experience. Required skills include practical-level modeling ability in Maya, ZBrush or equivalent software, and texturing skills using Substance Painter and Substance Designer. Candidates should have a strong interest in art, game design and games, as well as a strong interest in a playful, cartoony art style.

The role also requires the ability to work quickly and autonomously, careful attention to detail, patience and willingness to learn, a respectful attitude, and the ability to interact positively with colleagues. Intermediate Japanese language skill is required. Interest in learning English is welcomed, and English conversation lessons are available.

The position is permanent or contract-based and full-time, with an eight-hour workday and some flexibility in scheduling. It is based in the Tokyo area and is expected to be performed onsite. As part of the selection process, applicants must complete a practical test using their own time and resources.
