Industrial Plant Design Engineer

This full-time position covers the design and start-up of wastewater treatment facilities for private factories and industrial plants. Responsibilities include specifying purchased machinery, arranging procurement and utility construction work, preparing cost calculations, and managing project schedules and budgets.

The role works with related teams on system design, construction, commissioning, and plant start-up. Projects support Japanese companies operating in Japan, China, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. During the design period, work is mainly office-based. During construction, the position supports site administrative work from the office and travels to sites for assistance, without being permanently stationed at a site. Over time, the employee is expected to lead the project from order receipt through start-up. A medium-sized project may take approximately one and a half years; workload is stated as 50–60 overtime hours per month during busy periods and 20–30 hours during normal periods.

Applicants must have graduated from a science-related university faculty and be interested in environmental business, problem solving, or plant engineering. Experience in any type of design is welcomed, as is experience designing or operating plants or water treatment equipment. The position is based at the Tokyo office in Kyobashi, Chuo-ku. Working hours are 8:30–17:15, with eight scheduled working hours and a 45-minute break from 12:00 to 12:45. Overtime is available. The posting introduces staggered working hours and working from home. It states a five-day workweek from Monday to Friday, public holidays, annual holidays of 125 days, and summer, year-end, Golden Week, paid, marriage, bereavement, childcare, nursing-care, and other special leave.
