Custom LSI Development and Evaluation Engineer for PlayStation Video Output

About this role

This role develops and evaluates custom LSIs used for video output in PlayStation and other company products. The expected assignment after joining is in the video output-related Video I/F area, based on the person’s career and skill set.

Responsibilities include defining LSI specifications by gathering requirements from product planning, hardware and software teams, and game developers; determining target performance and cost; ordering from LSI vendors and conducting joint design and development; checking whether prototype chips meet required functions and performance; and supporting mass production. Specification and evaluation work requires a low-level understanding of hardware, including cache, memory and buses, together with a logical approach to problem solving. C/C++ programming is used for LSI verification and evaluation.

The development work involves collaboration with LSI design houses and uses architectures, IP and semiconductor processes covering CPU, GPU, AI/ML, codecs, high-speed interfaces, power control and security. The team develops custom LSIs that support SIE products including PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2. It includes specialists in LSI architecture, LSI design verification, hardware design and software development.

Required qualifications include development experience with C/C++; the ability to read and understand specifications in English and exchange emails in English; and at least three years of development experience in one of the following areas: LSI design and verification or evaluation for high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, USB, HDMI or DisplayPort, or evaluation and analysis related to power or signal integrity for high-speed interfaces. Knowledge of Video I/F standards is required, along with experience designing or verifying products or LSIs while considering certification requirements and resolving issues by consulting standards documents.

Preferred qualifications include experience across the process from product or custom LSI specification planning through verification, evaluation and mass-production introduction; team or project leadership experience; knowledge of digital image processing; and the ability to conduct technical conversations and discussions in English.
