Stockmark, a leading Japanese generative-AI startup that builds its own large language models from scratch (released the ~100-billion-parameter Japanese LLM Stockmark-2), is hiring a VP of Engineering. As product-development teams have grown, the role builds the organization, systems and culture so engineers perform at their best, ahead of upcoming team integration and reorganization. Responsibilities: mid-to-long-term engineering-org strategy and execution; engineering hiring strategy and employer branding; team structure/role design, evaluation and career paths; technical and organizational decision support for new and existing products; driving product-value initiatives with the CTO, PdMs and business owners; and engineering engagement and culture initiatives. Engineering org (excluding Research) is ~50 people across SaaS (~30) and PaaS (~20) divisions. Stack: Vue.js, TypeScript, Ruby (Rails), Python; RDS (Aurora/MySQL), Elasticsearch; AWS; Datadog. Reports under the CTO/CEO. Full remote is available (residence within Japan). Native-level Japanese is expected. Full-time, based in Tokyo (Minami-Aoyama).
