Backend Engineer

FOLIO is an online securities startup that develops asset-management products for consumers and financial institutions. Its services include the ROBOPRO AI robo-advisor, the robo-advisor-based おまかせ投資 service, and 4RAP, a SaaS asset-management platform for financial institutions.

The backend engineer develops and operates features for both consumer and business services. Responsibilities include building backend APIs for web services and smartphone applications, defining specifications with business-side colleagues who have financial knowledge, UX designers, and frontend engineers, and continuously improving, operating, and monitoring microservices. The role also evaluates libraries and tools and carries out proof-of-concept work.

Example projects include new implementations for individual business customers on the B2B product, feature additions to the B2B product, and efforts to make release processes and environment setup more efficient and automated.

The primary programming language is Scala. Deployment and batch execution use argocd/argowf on EKS and Jenkins. GitLab is used for version control. Communication and project tools include Slack, Confluence, Jira, Zoom, and Miro, while Figma is used for design. The infrastructure includes AWS, DataDog, and Terraform. Code reviews and testing are required. Depending on the team, management screens may also be developed with TypeScript and Next.js.

Scala experience is not required in advance because it can be learned during the work. The posting states that the scope of contribution may vary according to the candidate’s skills and experience. The team includes members with different areas of expertise who complement one another.
