Software Engineer (Open Position)

This open-position software engineering role develops and maintains estie’s proprietary products. Responsibilities include building new features, improving implementations to resolve engineer-identified technical issues and make processing more efficient, generating ideas for using extensive real-estate data, conducting proofs of concept, creating prototypes, and launching new products or projects. The role also contributes to cross-functional teams and supports technical growth.

The hiring process determines the most suitable role and team according to the candidate’s experience, skills, preferences, and strengths. Product development is carried out by teams of approximately several members with mixed professional backgrounds. A company-wide CTO and business-unit CTOs are available for technical consultation.

The products address information, operational, and transaction-related challenges in the commercial real-estate industry. The work involves extracting value from underused property data and modeling complex urban elements such as buildings, land, and addresses. The posting also describes opportunities to apply new technologies, including generative AI and AI/LLMs, to business problems and product development.

The frontend environment uses Next.js, React, and TypeScript. Depending on the product, backend services use Rust with actix-web and async-graphql, Ruby on Rails, or TypeScript with Node.js and NestJS. GraphQL is used for the interface with the frontend, and shared components are separated into microservices. Internal analytics tools use Python and Streamlit. Development tools include GitHub for code management, GitHub Actions for CI/CD, Sentry and Datadog for operational monitoring, JIRA for task management, and Slack for communication. Development support tools include GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, and Codex.

Welcomed experience includes development with Rust, TypeScript, or Ruby; frontend development using React or Next.js; designing or operating GraphQL APIs; building or operating services on AWS; launching products from 0 to 1 or 1 to 10; and developing products that use AI or LLMs. The preferred working style includes pursuing quality from design through implementation, using technical strengths to advance products or business, contributing beyond a formal specialty when needed for product success, and working in a team-first manner.

The position is a full-time regular employee role with no fixed contract term and a three-month probationary period from the start date. Salary is negotiable. Compensation may be reviewed up to twice a year and bonuses may be paid up to twice a year, depending on company and individual performance. Fixed overtime pay equivalent to 40 hours per month is included in annual compensation; additional overtime is paid when applicable.

The initial work location is the headquarters in Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo, with other company-designated locations. The posting recommends combining attendance at the headquarters with remote work and states that remote work is available. The work system is discretionary labor, normally based on 10:00–19:00, with start and end times left to the worker. A one-hour break is provided when working more than six hours, and overtime beyond scheduled working hours may occur.

Holidays are Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, with 125 annual holidays. The benefits include three days of summer leave usable through December, three days of Welcome leave usable during the probationary period, year-end and New Year leave, flextime and discretionary labor systems, a housing allowance, moving-expense assistance, and support for certifications, books, and study-group participation. Social insurance is provided, and a smoking room is installed. Initial duties are software development and maintenance; duties may later change to those designated by the company, including duties at a seconded organization.
