Engineering Manager

Role and responsibilities
The Engineering Manager is responsible for maximizing the business value created by one or more software engineering teams through people, process, and project management. The role includes setting and evaluating member goals, supporting development through mentoring and coaching, proposing and implementing improvements to the engineering organization, and handling management or implementation work when team circumstances require it. The manager also creates and carries out medium- to long-term organizational plans that develop members and enable effective delegation.

Team and product context
The company develops products and businesses that use data and technology to improve information, operations, and transactions in the commercial real-estate sector. Development teams are cross-functional and include product managers, engineers, and designers. Several business divisions have their own teams and Engineering Managers. The role works with Staff Engineers and other individual contributors, and can discuss organizational issues with company and division CTOs and with other Engineering Managers. Proposals for new systems and initiatives may be made and implemented across a division or the company.

Required qualifications
Applicants must have professional experience as a software engineer, substantial experience as an individual contributor, practical Engineering Manager experience, experience introducing or promoting development processes, and experience designing software architecture, making technical decisions, and operating and maintaining software. Preferred experience includes managing across multiple teams, managing other Engineering Managers, designing or operating an engineering organization, and managing technical public relations or recruiting activities.

Technologies and development environment
The frontend environment includes Next.js, React, and TypeScript. Backend environments vary by product and include Rust with actix-web and async-graphql, Ruby on Rails, and TypeScript with Node.js and NestJS. GraphQL is used at the frontend interface, and common components are separated as microservices. Internal analysis tools use Python and Streamlit. Development tools include GitHub Actions for CI/CD, Sentry and Datadog for monitoring, JIRA for task management, Slack for communication, and GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, and Codex for development support.

Employment conditions
This is a full-time, indefinite-term position with a three-month probationary period from the start date. The listed annual salary range is JPY 9,000,000 to JPY 15,000,000, while the final grade and amount are determined individually under company rules. Monthly pay includes base salary and a fixed allowance equivalent to 40 hours of overtime; additional overtime, holiday, and late-night premiums are paid when applicable amounts exceed that allowance. The posting gives a monthly example of JPY 500,000 comprising JPY 380,900 base pay and JPY 119,100 fixed allowance. Salary may be revised up to twice yearly and bonuses may be paid up to twice yearly, depending on company and individual performance.

The work location is the headquarters in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, with other designated company locations, including offices in Tokyo and Niigata, within the stated scope of change. Office attendance and remote work are recommended in combination. The residential guideline is within the 1都3県 area or within a 90-minute one-way ordinary-train commute. The work system is discretionary labor, based on 10:00–19:00, with start and end times entrusted to the employee. A one-hour break is provided when work exceeds six hours, and work beyond scheduled hours may occur. Holidays are Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, with 125 annual holidays, three summer days, three Welcome leave days usable during probation, and year-end and New Year holidays.
