Ground Systems Engineer

The Ground Systems Engineer designs and develops ground segment systems by working with customers and internal stakeholders, including system and subsystem engineers, AIT, and mission operations teams. Responsibilities include gathering requirements, documenting, procuring, maintaining, and deploying ground segment systems.

The role develops automation tools to streamline and optimize mission operations. It helps scale the mission control ecosystem for new missions and changing operational needs, including make-or-buy analyses and contributions to proposals.

The engineer oversees the integration of software components within the virtual infrastructure that hosts the ground segment. This includes ensuring proper interfaces with spacecraft systems and external ground elements such as EGSE and PIL components. The role develops and executes test plans, procedures, and configurations, including end-to-end validation of communication and control links, and supports CI/CD activities across the ground segment.

Additional responsibilities include developing, testing, and validating operational procedures; participating in training activities and mission rehearsals for certification in on-console operations; and owning and maintaining Ground-to-Ground Interface Control Documents while contributing to Space-to-Ground ICDs with ground station providers.

The position supports on-console operations, including 24/7 shift work and on-call duties during critical mission phases. It also works with IT to help ensure that the Mission Control Center and ground segment comply with security, data protection, relevant policies, and certifications defined by the Chief Information Officer and Information Security Officer.
