Senior Data Engineer

This Senior Data Engineer builds the data foundation for Woven by Toyota’s Behavior team and ML-based motion planning. The role works with ML and platform teams on large multimodal datasets from vehicle fleets and simulation, designing pipelines from ingestion and transformation through serving and visualization.

Responsibilities include setting the end-to-end data architecture, delivering trusted reusable datasets, coordinating data requirements across teams and evaluating scalability, reliability and cost. The engineer owns data products, service-level agreements, dashboards, monitoring and operational practices, uses prototypes to assess architectural decisions and documents models and interfaces. Senior responsibilities include mentoring engineers and establishing shared engineering standards.

Applicants need at least seven years building and operating production data pipelines and platforms at scale, strong SQL and a modern language such as Python, robust data-model and ETL/ELT design, cloud-data-warehouse and orchestration-tool experience, and ownership of large-scale architecture. Cross-team technical leadership and the ability to structure ambiguous problems are also required. Excellent English communication is required to explain technical trade-offs; business Japanese is preferred. Hybrid work requires three days per week at the Nihonbashi, Tokyo office.
