Senior Platform Engineer

Bluefield Energy is a startup established in November 2024 that applies technology to the electricity industry, including renewable energy. Its systems cover the process from solar power generation forecasting through JEPX bidding and monetization. This role supports those systems as a Senior Platform Engineer.

The engineer owns the reliability and trustworthiness of the system group, including reliability targets, monitoring standards, incident-response policies, architecture, operating policies, and technical-debt priorities. Responsibilities include improving the reliability of forecasting and bidding pipelines built with Cloud Run, BigQuery, and Dataform; establishing quality gates covering testing, reviews, reproducibility, and deployment; leading incident response, root-cause analysis, prevention of recurrence, and runbook development; and making technical decisions that balance accuracy, reliability, development speed, and operating cost.

AI Agents, specifically Claude Code and Codex, are used extensively for research, design, implementation, testing, and review. The role designs and develops the shared AI Agent harness environment, including custom skills, workflows, and review automation, so that Research Engineers can independently carry out development, validation, and improvement while maintaining safe and reliable operations.

Required qualifications include daily use of AI Agents in ordinary data or software development and experience designing a harness environment for their safe use. Candidates must also have primary experience developing and operating a production web system or data pipeline; experience making architecture or operating-policy decisions after organizing business impact and technical trade-offs; responsibility for production operations including incident response, analysis, and recurrence prevention; experience building and operating cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud, including infrastructure as code such as Terraform; and experience establishing CI/CD and quality gates covering testing, review, and deployment. Business communication in Japanese is required.

Experience operating databases under large traffic volumes, building data pipelines with dbt or Dataform, creating monitoring or observability infrastructure, or operating MLOps and machine-learning systems in production is welcome.

The development environment and named technology stack are Python, TypeScript, Terraform, Google Cloud, BigQuery, Dataform, Cloud Run, and PostgreSQL. The role begins by sharing operations with the current manager and gradually takes over operational ownership. The team is a small research and development group working with real power-generation, storage-battery, and market data.

The position is a full-time regular employee role with a three-month probationary period. Annual salary is 8,000,000 to 15,000,000 JPY, determined according to experience and skills. Monthly pay is 666,667 to 1,250,000 JPY, including base pay of 482,109 to 903,954 JPY, fixed overtime pay equivalent to 45 hours of overtime at 169,492 to 317,797 JPY, and a fixed late-night allowance equivalent to 20 hours at 15,066 to 28,249 JPY. Overtime and late-night work exceeding these fixed amounts is paid separately.

The work location is 5-13-5 Shimbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo, in Shimbashi MCV Building, 9F. Working hours use a flextime system with no core time and eight standard working hours; start and finish times may be set freely, with a one-hour break. A remote-work system is available. Holidays include weekends, public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays, and other company-designated holidays. Annual holidays total 125 days.
