This role joins the engineering team that designs, builds, and operates PlayStation online services. The services include end-user features such as messaging and voice chat with friends, as well as services for game developers such as score rankings and matchmaking.
As a service reliability engineer on a server-side application development team, the role is responsible for maintaining service reliability, performance, efficiency, and security. The work involves providing large-scale network services in a stable and efficient manner, responding to incidents, and explaining incidents and operational improvements logically. Application development experience is also welcomed.
The wider engineering organization plans, designs, develops, and operates services across the PlayStation lifecycle. Its scope includes client software, game content distribution and sales functions, online game functions, social community functions, and platform services provided to consumers and game developers.
Required qualifications are experience building and operating servers and handling incidents using Linux, basic knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP and HTTP, and the ability to communicate openly with people around the role. Preferred experience includes public cloud usage, building and operating large-scale services or microservices, and using AWS EKS or Kubernetes container technologies. Experience with Terraform or Chef for server construction is also welcomed.
Other preferred skills include writing Python or Ruby scripts to automate operations, operating web applications running on Apache or Tomcat and tuning their parameters, and operating storage or caching technologies such as MySQL, Memcached, Redis, and AWS DynamoDB. Experience using SaaS monitoring or APM tools is also listed.
