Kodansha, founded in 1909 and based in Bunkyo, Tokyo, publishes manga, books and magazines. Its books range from novels and non-fiction to practical guides, children’s books, art books and essays, and its magazines span literary and general-interest titles in print and digital. Its manga is published under license in more than 40 countries and territories.
Kodansha also brings its works to anime, film, drama series and stage plays, licenses them for products such as figures and snacks, and publishes indie games in-house alongside licensed games. It had 967 employees as of June 2025.
