Operations

Build and operate a digital bank’s risk framework, focusing on operational risk, outsourcing oversight, governance, risk analysis, and coordination with internal teams and external providers.

About this role

This position supports the launch of a new digital bank being prepared through a partnership with Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. The person will be employed by Money Forward and is scheduled to be seconded to the new company.

The role will establish the bank’s risk management framework from policy design through implementation and operation. Initial responsibilities focus on operational and non-financial risk. Duties include designing and introducing risk management rules and structures, drafting regulations and guidelines, building governance, operating operational risk management, and managing and evaluating external service providers. The role will also handle administrative-process risk, tangible-fixed-asset risk, and personnel risk; calculate operational-risk amounts; accumulate and analyze loss data; and coordinate with departments across the company and with external providers.

As the organization develops, the position may expand into integrated risk management covering financial risks such as market, liquidity, and credit risk, depending on the individual’s interests and performance. The team includes experienced members from banking and other financial industries and is working on service planning, system development, customer acquisition strategy, and other activities required to establish the bank and obtain its banking license.

Required qualification is practical risk-management experience at a financial institution, including a bank, securities company, insurance company, or funds-transfer business. Desired experience includes risk management at an internet bank, internal audit in a bank, and business-process planning such as building workflows and creating or revising rules and manuals. The posting also asks for someone who is comfortable reading English documents and materials, including with the use of AI or translation tools.

This is a full-time permanent position in Minato, Tokyo, at the Tamachi Station Tower S offices. Annual salary is JPY 7,000,000–12,000,000 on a monthly-pay system. The stated fixed allowance includes 45 hours of scheduled or statutory overtime and 40 hours of late-night work. The probationary period is three months from the start date. A flextime system applies with a standard eight-hour workday, a flexible period of 7:00–22:00, and stated core-time options of 10:00–15:00 or 9:30–14:30, with a 60-minute break. Hours may change for business reasons, and work beyond scheduled hours may occur.

The work style is hybrid. Office attendance is generally required two days per week, with three or more days recommended; attendance days vary by team and business conditions. Listed benefits include social insurance, a nearby-housing allowance and nearby-relocation celebration payment, rent deduction, health and gynecological examinations, influenza vaccination, book-purchase assistance, a corporate defined-contribution pension, an employee stock ownership plan, and discounts for contracted rental brokerage, housekeeping, babysitting, and online English conversation services. A high-performance bonus may be paid twice yearly based on evaluations and company performance. Holidays include Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, annual paid leave, three summer days, two winter days, and year-end and New Year leave from December 31 through January 3. Indoor smoking is generally prohibited, with a smoking room available.

The stated selection process consists of a casual interview or document screening, followed by two or three interviews. A reference check may be conducted around the final interview. The employment scope and work-location scope may be changed to those designated by the company.
