Lead Plant Technology Architect

This role designs buildings and equipment layouts for fusion plants within the technology development division. Responsibilities include planning building layouts and structures around requirements such as neutron shielding, tritium containment, prevention of radioactive contamination and remote handling. The role also considers process-equipment layouts, piping routes, maintenance access, material movement and operational circulation.

The position covers building-related facilities including HVAC and ventilation, utilities, water supply and drainage, power, fire protection and radiation-controlled areas. It includes coordination with process, mechanical, piping, instrumentation and electrical disciplines, as well as technical coordination with general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers and vendor management.

The architect prepares basic and detailed design documents, including general arrangement drawings, sections, structural planning drawings and specifications. The role also creates and consolidates 3D models of process equipment installed inside the buildings, including blankets, divertors, tritium management systems, heat-exchange equipment, instrumentation and control equipment, and electrical equipment. Other duties include technical reviews for designers and guidance for junior staff.

The work requires a first-class architect qualification, at least five years of professional experience in architectural work, completion of the registered managing architect training course, and the ability to work exclusively in that capacity. The candidate must be able to create architectural drawings using 2D CAD such as AutoCAD. Intermediate English, 3D CAD experience and experience with architectural BIM tools such as Rebro or Revit are listed as preferred qualifications.

The role includes design decisions and on-site coordination for large overseas projects, technical specification discussions with overseas customers and manufacturers, and installation or testing support mainly in Europe and North America. Overseas business travel is expected. The primary workplace is in Ota, Tokyo; work at a satellite office in Marunouchi, Chiyoda, may also be possible from June 2026. Remote work is negotiable for someone living within commuting distance. Domestic or international transfers may occur.

The position is full-time with working hours from 9:00 to 18:00, including a one-hour break, although a flextime system may apply depending on operational needs. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are days off, with at least 120 annual holidays. Social insurance, salary increases and special paid leave granted at joining are provided. The posting states that employment may alternatively be offered as a contract position. Annual salary is listed at 7,000,000 to 9,000,000 JPY, with the final amount subject to experience, company performance and individual evaluation.
