Product Development Quality Assurance Specialist

This product-development QA role supports projects for WHILL’s personal mobility products and mobility services. The position identifies quality risks and concerns during development, makes discussions, decisions, and response status traceable, and improves transparency across the project. Day-to-day responsibilities include finding quality issues, reflecting them in FMEA, creating test cases, and maintaining a process that allows discussions to be tracked by FMEA ID. The role also arranges issue-resolution meetings, coordinates stakeholders, assigns tasks, organizes closure conditions, and improves the accuracy of FMEA, test-case, and quality-risk management processes.

Applicants must have at least five years of practical experience in one or more of hardware products, mechanical design, product development, quality assurance, or evaluation and testing. Experience with development quality processes such as FMEA, DR, test-case design, quality-issue management, or risk assessment is required. The role requires the ability to work with stakeholders from multiple departments and organize, record, and track next actions and discussion points. Candidates must also be able to form hypotheses about quality risks and failure mechanisms and validate them through checks and verification of the actual product and work site.

Preferred experience includes leading mechanical design, serving as the primary designer, working as a project manager or development leader, and driving hardware product development. Experience with products in fields where safety and reliability are important, including automotive, mobility, medical devices, robotics, industrial machinery, or home appliances, is welcomed. Knowledge of FMEA logic, correspondence among causes, countermeasures, and verification results, and documenting the basis for closure is also valued. Experience visualizing quality or development issues, managing schedules and progress, and improving issue-tracking table operations is preferred.

The QA team has six members, including people with backgrounds at Hitachi, Honda, Fujitsu, and Yaskawa Electric. WHILL develops and sells personal mobility products and provides mobility services using autonomous and IoT-enabled vehicles. The company operates bases in Japan, North America, Europe, and APAC and conducts business in more than 30 countries and regions.

The position is a full-time role based in Tokyo, near Tennozu Isle Station and Shinagawa Station. The stated scope for changes to the work location is locations designated by the company, including places where remote work is performed. Business-advanced Japanese is required.
