Business Unit CTO Candidate

This role leads a business unit from a technical perspective and takes responsibility as a member of the management team. The main mission is to plan and execute the unit’s technology strategy, address business-management issues through technology, and establish an effective development state covering delivery, organizational growth, and system health. The role also explains technical topics from a business perspective, embeds the company culture within the business unit, and may take on project management and people management as needed.

The position has broad authority over development-organization design, technology selection, and business-unit development budgets. The business plan and development priorities are determined through technical discussions with the business leader. The successful candidate will operate a development organization of several dozen people and pursue business results. The unit includes both engineers and business members and operates with substantial autonomy, while the full-company CTO, other business-unit CTOs, and management provide opportunities for discussion and mutual support.

Required experience includes practical work as a CTO, VPoE, or in an equivalent role for a development organization of several dozen people. Extensive development and management experience is required, along with the ability to serve as a career model for development-organization members. The posting also seeks someone who can drive a team toward business plans and goals, work across areas to solve problems by leveraging engineering, and continue unlearning established success patterns during major environmental changes.

The development environment includes Next.js, React, and TypeScript on the frontend. Backend products use Rust with actix-web and async-graphql, Ruby on Rails, or TypeScript with Node.js and NestJS. GraphQL is used between the frontend and backend, and internal analysis tools use Python and Streamlit. Development tools include GitHub, GitHub Actions, Sentry, Datadog, JIRA, Slack, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, and Codex. Microservices are used for common components.

This is a full-time, indefinite-term position with a three-month probationary period. The JSON-LD lists an annual salary of JPY 10,000,000 to JPY 15,000,000; the posting states that the individual grade and amount are determined under company rules. Monthly salary includes a fixed allowance equivalent to 40 hours of overtime, with the difference paid when applicable overtime, holiday, and late-night premiums exceed that allowance.
