Android Engineer

This full-time Android Engineer role develops and operates the Android version of WealthNavi, a financial robo-advisor service. The engineer leads new mobile feature development from the planning stage and works on system design, architecture selection, code quality, refactoring, testing, performance, and cross-team development. The role also includes designing communication practices that help embed improvements across the team.

The app serves 500,000 users and has daily active users in the tens of thousands. The team is improving its platform while delivering new functionality in a mobile-first product environment. Current challenges include migrating to Jetpack Compose, building CI/CD pipelines to support automated testing and UI test coverage, and creating tools and processes for monitoring and optimizing UI performance. The role includes identifying additional issues, proposing solutions, and carrying them through with ownership.

Applicants must have at least three years of Android development experience using Kotlin and at least five years of development experience as an engineer. Experience with native applications used and operated by many users, launching or renewing an app, security knowledge, server-side or web application development, UX research such as user interviews, team management or technical leadership, and product or project management is welcomed. Working hours use a flextime system with a 10:00–16:00 core time, a 60-minute break, and monthly settlement of working hours based on eight hours per business day. Annual compensation is listed as JPY 6.5–10 million and is paid monthly in 12 installments.
