Application Engineer

The application engineer will design, develop, and operate applications in the Medical Experience business, including a newly launched online prescription service. Responsibilities cover service websites, systems used by medical institutions during online consultations, payment systems, delivery systems, customer management systems, and integrations with external APIs. The role covers the full development cycle from frontend to backend and from development through operations.

Frontend development uses TypeScript, and backend development uses Ruby on Rails. Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, and Next.js is welcomed. The posting also names scalable system construction, technology selection, code review, product improvement with product managers and designers, documentation of information needed for product development, SaaS or healthcare product development, tech lead experience for in-house products, requirements definition, and architecture design.

Candidates are expected to be full-stack engineers able to work on both frontend and backend development. The role involves collaborating with product managers, designers, and QA engineers. The products serve patients, medical institutions, and pharmacies. The Medical Experience business has multiple teams, and the assigned team is one of them. Five engineers currently belong to the team, while approximately ten engineers are involved in product development across the business. Engineers generally handle products full-stack and may be assigned to projects according to business conditions and development tasks.

Development uses an agile process based mainly on sprints. Tasks are prioritized from short-term requests and medium- to long-term product strategy, then assigned with consideration for each engineer’s characteristics and desired technical areas. Engineers are expected to take ownership, contribute to technical decisions, and work with business-side members to create new healthcare businesses. Collaboration includes regular meetings between engineers and designers.

The position is full-time and based in Minato, Tokyo. Remote work is available, but two office days per week are required; office attendance may also be required for physical work, visitors, or other face-to-face communication. Depending on grade and role, flextime with an 11:00–16:00 core time, discretionary work with 11:00–16:00 recommended hours, or a managerial work arrangement may apply. The annual salary range is 4,000,000 to 7,000,000 JPY.
