About this role

The application engineer works in the Digital Therapeutics division, designing and developing both frontend and backend applications for therapeutic apps and related services. Depending on suitability and preference, the role may also include operations, maintenance, and improvements.

The engineer is expected to lead the team developing applications, contribute to implementation and design, and help with team building. Rather than implementing specifications without discussion, the role involves working with product managers and planning members to discuss requirements and address the substance of the specifications. Progress should be made flexibly while considering team members’ areas of expertise.

The products include therapeutic applications that use software and digital technology to propose or support treatment. Examples include an application using exposure therapy for irritable bowel syndrome. The role supports the development of products intended to help patients continue treatment from home. The team also emphasizes data reliability and availability in development.

The development stack includes TypeScript, Prisma, GraphQL, and React through the Redwood.js framework. Preferred additional experience includes server-side TypeScript development and operations, React Native with TypeScript, Terraform or other infrastructure as code, healthcare institution service experience, healthcare system development incorporating QMS, vulnerability-aware development, and unit or automated testing.

Required experience includes involvement from product design through development, frontend or backend application development and operations, documentation of information needed for product development, project leadership with process management awareness, and experience contributing to software quality improvement. Experience collaborating with product managers and designers to improve products is also welcomed.

Products are developed by small teams of approximately three to four people, with engineers generally handling a broad range of frontend and backend work. Development uses sprint-based feedback, with engineers involved from planning, UI design, and specification definition through design and proof of concept. Mob programming, internal study sessions, and monthly technical presentations are used for knowledge sharing.
