Engineering Manager, Authentication & Authorization Platform

The Engineering Manager leads management of the Authentication and Authorization Platform team across people, organization, and technology, with responsibility for maximizing team and organizational outcomes. The role includes identifying and resolving latent technical and organizational issues, improving development productivity, and reducing technical debt.

The manager develops and advances team hiring and development plans based on a medium- to long-term vision. Responsibilities also include setting and tracking goals, conducting evaluations, supporting members’ career planning, skill development, and motivation, and designing and carrying out communication and collaboration with related teams.

The team develops infrastructure that supports healthcare products, including an authentication portal providing a consistent security and authentication experience across products, a certificate platform supporting more than 1.5 billion monthly mTLS verifications, and organization and user management for pharmacies across Japan. The work addresses strict security requirements for products handling medical information, including compliance with Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare guidelines and protection of patient information.

Planned initiatives include switching the certificate authority for a certificate platform with approximately 25,000 certificates, multi-region authentication information, and introducing more secure authentication methods. The team has also established AI-driven development, with engineers exercising discretion from requirements analysis onward.

The development organization includes approximately 180 engineers and product managers. Its stated practices include supporting information sharing through development blogs, study sessions, and conference presentations.
