About this role

The Corporate IT Engineer owns Sakana AI’s company-wide corporate IT operations. The role supports devices, identity, SaaS, procurement, audits, and helpdesk operations while progressively replacing operational processes with systems that use AI agents and automation. The internal environment is centered on cloud services and SaaS. Sakana AI conducts research and development in generative AI technology inspired by nature.

Responsibilities include defining and operating security policies for company-wide identity, devices, and SaaS use, as well as designing and maintaining a zero-trust architecture. The role establishes governance for the use of AI services and AI platforms and leads adoption of those policies across the company. It selects and introduces SaaS and cloud services such as Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, and Microsoft 365, then defines and manages usage rules. It also designs and operates security controls for endpoint, account, and SaaS environments, including EDR, SASE, and CASB.

The engineer develops device asset lifecycle policies for Mac and Windows PCs, smartphones, and tablets, and advances automated provisioning. The role designs the full account lifecycle associated with joining and leaving the company and establishes operating workflows. It plans and promotes process automation and system integration using APIs, iPaaS, and AI agents. Other responsibilities are the overall design, construction, and operation of the office network, and management of the internal helpdesk and IT inquiry response structure.

Applicants must have practical experience independently designing and operating several relevant areas. These include managing macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android devices; lifecycle management with MDM tools such as Jamf and Microsoft Intune; automated provisioning; endpoint security; identity and access management centered on identity providers such as Google Workspace and Entra ID; SAML or SCIM provisioning; device-trust account protection; and account lifecycle design. Relevant experience also includes introducing and operating Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, JIRA, and Confluence, establishing usage rules and controlling SaaS settings and external integrations, governing external generative AI services, and designing or improving processes with workflow or ITSM tools. Network experience may include routers, Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, wireless access points, zero-trust design, SASE-based cloud connection controls, identity-provider authentication integration, and office openings or relocations.

Additional required qualifications are hands-on experience incorporating generative AI, including AI agents, embeddings, or RAG, into process automation or efficiency improvements; identifying process problems and completing solutions with relevant stakeholders; explaining technical issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences; managing cross-functional projects and driving initiatives through influence, organization, and follow-up; and managing vendors, inventory, procurement, and technology operations with strong execution and attention to detail. Business-level Japanese at JLPT N1 level is required. The role is based in Japan and requires business-level Japanese conversation and the ability to understand and refine business documents in English.

Preferred experience includes stakeholder negotiation and consensus building involving executives, budget planning and investment decisions, company-wide implementation of EDR, SASE, or CASB security products, software development, Google Apps Script or PowerShell scripting, implementation and operation of IT controls related to J-SOX, obtaining or maintaining SOC2 or ISMS certifications, addressing security requirements from financial institutions or government agencies, system audits, developing junior employees, supporting executives, and mitigating automation risks such as managing permissions granted to AI agents and recording execution logs. Business-level English is also listed as a preferred qualification.

The position is listed as full-time in Tokyo. Applications require a brief introduction and the role being applied for to be emailed to careers@sakana.ai, followed by a Google Form submission containing an English CV and cover letter.
