Sakana AI is a Tokyo-based frontier AI research and product company founded in 2023 by David Ha (CEO), Ren Ito (Chairman) and Llion Jones (CTO). Its work includes The AI Scientist, multi-agent orchestration models and the Namazu LLMs for Japan, and it builds user-facing products such as Sakana Chat, Sakana Marlin and Sakana Fugu. Marlin, launched in June 2026, is an autonomous research assistant that can run research for up to about eight hours.
Developers access Fugu and Namazu through APIs, with pay-as-you-go token pricing and monthly plans. Large enterprises and public-sector organizations work with its Applied team on AI solutions in areas such as finance and defense and intelligence. Sakana AI announced its Series B in November 2025.
