Solution Tech Lead

This role provides technical support across multiple internal and external generative AI product development teams in the Digital Strategy Department Technology Team. The lead evaluates technologies, designs and reviews architectures, standardizes technical knowledge, and helps raise generative AI development capability across the organization. The position focuses less on writing code directly and more on supporting cross-team design, evaluation, and technical decisions based on expertise.

Responsibilities include researching generative AI technologies, designing proofs of concept, conducting technical evaluations, and making Go/No-Go recommendations for production adoption. The role selects LLMs and designs approaches according to requirements and use cases, and evaluates RAG, agents, prompt design, evaluation, and guardrails. It also supports quality management for AI applications.

The lead conducts architecture reviews and design across products and projects, including production architectures that account for security, availability, auditability, and cost. Other responsibilities include designing shared platforms, shared components, design guidelines, and technical standards; deciding whether they should be applied to individual products; sharing knowledge with development teams; holding study sessions; responding to technical consultations; and presenting work through talks or articles. The role also involves technical discussions and negotiations with vendors and related departments.

Required experience includes practical software engineering or systems development experience plus experience as a tech lead or architect across multiple teams or products, as an engineering manager, VPoE, or CTO responsible for technical decisions, or as a senior individual contributor such as a staff or principal engineer who led design and technology selection. Practical experience designing systems or applications and architectures for production operation, and experience evaluating new technologies and proposing adoption policies based on technical grounds, are also required.

Preferred experience includes designing or developing applications using generative AI or LLMs, production architecture design and operation on AWS, Azure, or GCP, non-functional requirements design in highly available and secure environments, development and internal rollout of shared platforms, SDKs, or design guidelines, external technical communication such as talks, articles, or OSS activity, and experience spanning multiple phases from concept and demonstration through PoC, productionization, and operation.

The position is based in Tokyo and uses a hybrid office and remote work arrangement. The employment is permanent, with a six-month probationary period. Standard working hours are 8:40 to 17:10, including a 60-minute break, although flextime may apply depending on the department.
