Dwango's Bookwalker division is hiring an Operations Engineer to keep Japan's large e-book and magazine services, BOOK WALKER, d Book and d Magazine, running stably and improve their quality. The role is more than maintenance: it leads development vendors and pushes new features and process improvements, with understanding specifications and directing development at the centre rather than writing code.
The engineer controls vendors and quality through progress, acceptance and quality management, takes part in requirements and basic design for new features such as a three-minute free preview, investigates incidents and root causes, and improves operating processes through documentation. A current challenge is organising specifications scattered across Redmine and Excel into a shared picture of the system. The stack is Java, PHP and JavaScript with MySQL on AWS.
Applicants need about three years of design, development, maintenance or operation of web or mobile applications, programming experience (Java or PHP preferred), SQL knowledge, development with outside vendors, Linux operation, cloud experience, interest in books and publishing, a home remote-work setup, residence in Japan and business-level Japanese (about N2).
