Platform Engineer

As a platform engineer, the role designs, builds, operates and standardizes shared foundations supporting the entire development organization, including cloud infrastructure, security, development environments, CI/CD and development productivity visibility.

The role works with product teams to identify common and potential issues and resolve them through systems rather than one-off infrastructure support. Responsibilities include building an environment in which product teams can develop and release independently, safely and efficiently, and leading adoption and continuous improvement of the resulting platform.

AI platform and governance work includes visualizing AI tool usage, cost and impact, identifying improvement opportunities, preparing developer guidelines covering usage patterns, use cases and precautions, and establishing usage rules and guardrails to prevent excessive cost or inappropriate use.

Security responsibilities include designing, implementing and operating AWS account and permission structures and security guardrails using SCP, IAM and Security Hub. The role also establishes standards, rules and operating processes for safe autonomous cloud use, together with organization-wide systems for security logs, secret management and audit response.

Development-platform responsibilities include identifying issues in CI/CD, local development environments and environment creation processes; coordinating with product teams; and reducing engineering cognitive load through standardization, automation and self-service. The role also creates mechanisms that support adoption and ongoing improvement.

For infrastructure as code, the role organizes Terraform and IaC management policies, directory structures, review criteria and operating rules, and prepares reusable shared modules and infrastructure templates for product teams. Infrastructure creation and change are further moved toward self-service operation.

The role visualizes development-organization health using Four Keys and DORA Metrics, identifies bottlenecks based on lead time, deployment frequency and change failure rate, and operates continuous improvement cycles with product teams and technical leads.

The development organization is expanding to approximately 50 people, and the Platform team is being established and strengthened to address infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, security, test environments and cost management across multiple products. The products include video-based DX SaaS for frontline education and a manufacturing-focused field-record management DX SaaS. The named technology environment includes Ruby, TypeScript, Go, Ruby on Rails, Vue.js, React, Aurora MySQL, BigQuery, AWS, GCP, Docker, GitHub, Slack, Terraform, Datadog and GitHub Actions.
