About this role

This position is a Platform Engineer/SRE role for a completely new cloud-based claims-system business for pharmacies. The work starts from a clean slate rather than replacing a legacy system. The engineer will connect cloud infrastructure and application development, covering AWS environment and architecture work through backend development.

Responsibilities include designing, building, and implementing a cloud-native environment based on AWS managed services, containers including ECS, and serverless components. The role will represent infrastructure as code with Terraform, introduce advanced observability, and lead CI/CD optimization. It also includes designing and developing the claims system’s backend, including MQ and PostgreSQL connectivity, load balancing, backend APIs, batch processing, database design, communication performance improvements, and asynchronous processing foundations.

AI is intended to be incorporated across design, development, operations, and implemented functions to support autonomous operations and faster delivery. Because the system handles sensitive medical data, the role is responsible for pursuing security by design and robust system behavior. The work includes using Claude for feature development, alert summarization, and operations automation, as well as using Databricks for large-scale log structuring, transfer control, observability improvements, and SaaS usage-cost optimization.

The engineer can participate in selecting frameworks, libraries, AWS services, and infrastructure-as-code tools, and can lead architecture decisions that address scalability and maintainability. The role is intended for someone who wants to advance the platform itself through software engineering and current technologies, including generative AI, rather than limiting the work to routine system operation and maintenance.

The project has 30 engineers and three designers, with more than 40 people overall including product managers and product marketing managers. The wider development organization has approximately 180 engineers and product managers. The work location is in Minato, Tokyo. The organization also encourages and supports information sharing through development blog posts, study sessions, and conference presentations.

The stated selection process consists of document screening, a casual interview, two or three interviews, an aptitude test, a reference check using back check, and an offer meeting. The process may change depending on circumstances.
