About this role

This role develops control and software for robot vision systems within the Vision Robotics organization. The engineer supports development leaders and helps drive projects through planning, progress and issue management, design reviews, and coordination with internal developers and external vendors. The work covers requirements definition, design, implementation, evaluation, and delivery of software features for products including robot vision systems and high-speed tracking cameras.

Day-to-day responsibilities include adding functions and improving performance in response to market and customer requirements. The software work spans image processing, robot control, communications, and graphical user interfaces. The engineer also investigates defects found in the market or during evaluation by analyzing logs and testing with actual equipment, then plans and implements corrective actions and design improvements to prevent recurrence.

The position includes presenting specifications to external vendors, reviewing deliverables, and carrying out acceptance evaluations. Collaboration is required with customer-support personnel, hardware development teams, and other internal departments. Customer-facing activities include system setup, operational checks, and technical support at customer sites, followed by feeding customer requests and field issues back into product development. Depending on development status and experience, the engineer may also contribute to other software projects related to vision robotics.

Required qualifications are at least three years of team-based product development experience with embedded software or software for industrial equipment, at least three years of software development experience using C++, and at least one year of experience presenting specifications to external vendors, reviewing deliverables, and conducting acceptance evaluations. Experience with industrial robots, robot controllers, motion control, image processing, image recognition, AI recognition, calibration, industrial or 3D cameras, smart cameras, or vision sensors is welcomed. Experience developing cloud services using AWS is also welcomed.

The team develops software for robot vision products by combining robotics, cameras, image processing, control, communications, and UI technologies. The role offers experience with practical design based on actual equipment operation, customer sites, mass production, and maintenance, as well as opportunities to support technical decisions, issue management, reviews, vendor coordination, and team members. The position is based at Nikon’s West Site headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Remote work is available, and a flextime system is available. Working hours are eight hours per day, with a 45-minute break. The probationary period is three months. The position is full-time and includes a stated annual salary range of 6.0 million to 7.8 million yen, social insurance, commuting expenses, conditional rent assistance, employee stock ownership, defined-contribution pension, retirement benefits, childcare and nursing-care programs, and other stated leave and benefit programs.
