Software QA Engineer

The Software QA Engineer leads quality assurance across the company’s IoT software portfolio, covering embedded software, web applications and mobile applications. Responsibilities include planning, designing and executing tests for an assigned product, analyzing results, reporting defects, and managing the full quality assurance process. The role also evaluates the effects of changes on related products and the wider system, and plans and performs cross-system testing.

Quality work begins before the test phase. The engineer reviews work in earlier development stages, promotes awareness of quality, works closely with development teams to resolve issues, and helps build quality into the product. The role also proposes and implements improvements to the existing QA process, including more efficient test methods, tools, AI-assisted quality processes and test automation.

Required qualifications are practical experience leading system testing for web applications, experience planning, designing, implementing and operating automated tests, and experience using AI to improve testing processes. Candidates must also have JSTQB Foundation Level certification or equivalent knowledge, and the ability to work with stakeholders to solve problems. Preferred experience includes reviewing development documentation, coding as a software development engineer, designing or conducting tests for non-functional requirements such as performance and security, and knowledge of SaaS web architecture design.

The named technology stack includes C/C++, Node.js, Go, Ruby on Rails, Vue.js and React. Infrastructure includes AWS and GCP. The database environment uses MySQL with Amazon Aurora. Build and deployment tools include AWS Pipeline, CodeBuild, CircleCI and Jenkins. Infrastructure as code uses Terraform and AWS CloudFormation. Other listed tools are Google Workspace, Slack, JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, Gitlab and Magicpod. The organization also uses Caude in daily engineering work and provides Gemini Advanced for all employees.

The position supports quality improvement for the Akerun access management system, the akerun.M keyless rental system, and Akerun Digital ID. These products combine IoT and SaaS, covering access control, rental-property processes and digital versions of employee, student and membership identification. The QA function works with specialists in web applications, mobile applications, firmware, infrastructure and SRE. The development organization is approximately 170 people and includes in-house hardware and software development, sales, marketing, customer success and logistics functions.

This is a full-time permanent position in Minato, Tokyo. Annual compensation is JPY 6,000,000–9,000,000; the posting also lists monthly pay of JPY 500,000–750,000, consisting of ability pay, performance-variable pay and a discretionary allowance. The allowance covers 45 hours of overtime, with additional premium pay for overtime beyond that amount. Engineers use a discretionary work system, and average overtime is approximately 15–20 hours per month. Remote work is available, but fully remote work is not offered; the standard arrangement includes one office day per week, with an office-centered style also possible. Working hours are listed as 9:30–18:30 with a one-hour break. The trial period is six months, and salary reviews occur twice a year in January and July.

Annual holidays total 125 days, including weekends, public holidays and year-end holidays from December 29 to January 3. Paid leave starts at 10 days from the joining date, with additional allocation each year, and five special-leave days are provided.
