Server Engineer

This on-site Data Center Engineer role sits within AWS Infrastructure Services' Data Center Operations team in Tokyo, responsible for the hardware lifecycle of Amazon's data center IT infrastructure. Day-to-day work includes installing and removing server racks, repairing IT hardware and networking equipment, and responding to operational emergencies affecting service. The engineer serves as a first point of contact for hardware troubleshooting under customer service-level agreements, takes part in on-call rotations, and monitors infrastructure through routine maintenance and change-management work. The role also involves participating in team meetings on metrics and progress toward daily/weekly goals, understanding and following departmental safety and security policies, and contributing to technical documentation through root-cause analysis of operational issues; more experienced engineers may mentor junior team members. Requirements include experience with ticketing systems and escalation procedures, hands-on data center facility experience, understanding of maintenance windows and change management, English and Japanese communication skills, Linux/networking certifications (RHCSA, CCNA, or equivalent) and scripting skills such as Bash or Python, and a bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
