About this role

This role researches and develops AI and computer-vision technologies for imaging products and application software. Responsibilities include fundamental research into technologies such as object detection and segmentation; improving autofocus, automated shooting and tracking functions; and implementing and evaluating the resulting technologies.

The products include mirrorless cameras, professional video equipment, interchangeable lenses and application software. Named functions include subject detection, tracking for autofocus, automated shooting and automated editing. The team develops elemental technologies for digital-camera products and services, with a focus on differentiating products through proprietary AI and computer-vision capabilities. The work also covers edge AI that runs directly on devices rather than in the cloud, where large computations must be performed with limited computing resources.

Required qualifications include experience researching or developing algorithms or applications using AI, computer vision or deep learning, practical experience with the C language and Python, and the ability to communicate smoothly with internal stakeholders and partner companies, including consensus building, negotiation and coordination.

Knowledge of cameras or imaging products and experience developing camera functions such as autofocus are welcome. Experience developing deep-learning models for two years or more is also welcome.

The position is assigned to the First Development Section in the Second Development Department of the Imaging Products Division. The group includes specialists in AI/CV, subject tracking and automated camera functions. The team works with overseas customers, overseas subsidiaries and partner companies on joint development.
