Machine Learning Engineer (NLP)

CyberAgent's AI Localization Center, set up in June 2024 within the AI Business Unit, supports the overseas expansion of manga and anime with AI. Translating manga demands consistency of characters and context, lettering and cultural adaptation, and the centre builds AI tools for translators, letterers and editors. It hires a Machine Learning Engineer (NLP) to develop algorithms that evaluate and improve manga localisation.

The engineer applies natural-language-processing expertise to hard problems that combine text with manga panel images. Examples include methods to assess whether a translated character's speech style stays consistent, prompts for context-aware LLM translation, LLMs specialised in genre terminology, and knowledge representation and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) that use long context. The work happens close to the company's AI Lab researchers.

Applicants need specialist knowledge and practical experience in machine learning, NLP and machine translation, Python data analysis and model implementation, practical use of frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, and expert knowledge of LLMs. Published papers or talks in NLP and computer-vision knowledge are preferred. A love of manga and interest in sending Japanese manga abroad suit the team.
