AI Solutions Engineer (Consultant–Senior Consultant)

AVILEN’s AI Solutions Engineer works with leading Japanese and industry-leading companies to carry AI initiatives from initial vision through implementation, operations, and adoption. The role supports clients in embedding AI into their business and organizational processes and works with AI talent-development and organizational-development teams.

Responsibilities include agreeing with clients on the vision and success criteria for a project, including quality, cost, and delivery targets. The engineer identifies and articulates core business issues, defines requirements, and assesses technical feasibility. The role also designs practical processes and delivery structures for PoC and MVP validation, runs feedback cycles, leads operational design and meeting facilitation, and brings solutions into production use. The engineer redesigns internal and organizational workflows for an AI-first approach and coordinates software, infrastructure, and frontend engineers as well as internal and client teams to advance roadmaps, schedules, and tasks.

At Senior Consultant level, the role may independently lead a single project or theme from concept through production, manage discussions and decisions with key client stakeholders in ambiguous situations, negotiate implementation approaches, design operations, guide members, and propose follow-on themes. At Consultant level, responsibilities include designing and implementing an assigned module under a project lead, conducting field validation, understanding client operations, data, and constraints, raising PoC or MVP work to production quality, and contributing to issue structuring, requirements, and agreement on success criteria.

Required qualifications include practical knowledge of statistics, machine learning, or deep learning, generally gained over about three years, and about three years of experience designing and implementing AI tools using Python or similar technologies. Candidates must also have experience advancing projects with client negotiation, including defining issues from ambiguous requirements, building stakeholder agreement, and completing implementation and introduction. Integrity, respect for others, ownership of outcomes, and a commitment to continued learning are also required.

Preferred experience includes designing and building systems on AWS, Azure, or GCP; building LLM or generative AI applications such as RAG systems, agents, or evaluation designs; creating algorithms through papers, patents, or personal tools; structuring client operations and issues into a target state and roadmap; full-stack development involving APIs, backend, and frontend; development operations using Git and CI/CD; implementation design considering security and governance; client-site or on-site support; and management of teams of approximately two or three or more people.

This is a full-time permanent position. The probationary period is six months from the start date, with no change in salary or treatment. Annual compensation is JPY 7.0–13.0 million, determined according to experience, ability, and previous compensation. Salary reviews take place twice a year, and the stated compensation includes an expected 30 hours of monthly overtime. The work location is in Nihonbashi Bakurocho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. A super-flextime system applies from 5:00 to 22:00 with no core hours, and scheduled working time is eight hours per day. Remote work is available.

Holidays include Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, five days of year-end and New Year leave, three summer-leave days that may be taken freely from July through September, and other company-designated days. The selection process is document screening, first interview, case interview, and final interview; the case and final interviews are generally held in person.
