Backend Engineer, Data

This role builds and operates the data systems behind real-estate products. Responsibilities include creating collection systems such as input systems, integration APIs, and batch processes; modeling collected property information for connection to a common data platform; and implementing and operating pipelines for ETL, normalization, entity matching, and historical data use.

The role also develops and maintains backend API servers for geocoding, machine learning, and data delivery. It includes building and operating an internal system for correcting data, as well as data pipelines and BI dashboards that visualize management indicators such as sales and product usage for executives and business teams. The position also contributes to an AI-ready data platform using Snowflake Cortex AI functions.

The team develops software that creates and improves the real-estate data delivered through estie's products. Because property information is fragmented and often contains inconsistent notation and missing values, the team combines automated processing with decisions by data operators. Engineers work with data operators, business divisions, and customers from defining required data through implementation and delivery. The product domain is commercial real estate, including offices, station buildings, and shopping centers.

Required qualifications are a basic understanding of computer science, including data structures and computational complexity; approximately two or more years of experience developing and operating web backend systems or server-side processing such as batch processing; development experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL; and experience working in a team using version-control systems such as Git and ticket-management systems.

Preferred qualifications include backend development with statically typed languages such as Rust, Go, or Kotlin; experience using data warehouse products such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Redshift; experience designing business logic and data models in a specific domain; interest in Rust; knowledge of machine learning; and experience developing with BI tools such as Tableau or Looker.

The position is full-time with an indefinite contract and a three-month probationary period from the start date. The listed annual salary range is JPY 5,000,000 to JPY 13,000,000. Compensation is determined individually by grade and amount, with monthly pay consisting of base salary and a fixed allowance equivalent to 40 hours of overtime. Any excess over the applicable overtime, holiday, and late-night premiums is paid separately. Raises and bonuses may each be provided up to twice a year depending on company and individual performance.

The initial work location is the Tokyo headquarters in Akasaka, Minato-ku. Company-designated locations, including offices in Tokyo and Niigata, may also apply. Office attendance and remote work are encouraged in combination; the stated residence guideline is within Tokyo and three neighboring prefectures or within 90 minutes one way by ordinary train. The work system is discretionary, with 10:00–19:00 as the basic schedule. Start and end times are left to the worker, a one-hour break is provided when working more than six hours, deemed hours are set by a labor-management agreement, and work beyond scheduled hours may occur. Holidays are Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, with 125 annual holidays, three summer leave days usable through December, three Welcome leave days usable during probation, and year-end and New Year leave that varies by fiscal year. Social insurance is provided, and a smoking room is installed. Duties may change to company-designated work, and a secondment may be ordered.
