Medical Solutions Development Engineer

This role develops platforms supporting remote maintenance of medical equipment and service solutions for customers. Work covers the full development cycle from requirements organization and design through implementation, testing, release, and subsequent improvement, in coordination with related departments.

Responsibilities include designing and implementing AWS cloud functions for data storage, server processing, authentication, and user interfaces. The role also develops software for edge terminals installed at hospitals, mainly using C#, including functions for converting and transmitting logs and connecting hospital-side systems with the cloud.

The customer-facing solution centrally manages information from multiple diagnostic imaging devices installed in hospitals. It provides dashboard-based displays, visibility into operating status, and support for managing the application status of security patches. The work contributes to stable operation of medical equipment and improved efficiency in clinical settings.

For early-career candidates, the posting requires logical thinking, teamwork, willingness to learn, independent investigation and problem solving, coordination with stakeholders, basic programming experience in any language, and basic network and cloud knowledge. Experience from study or personal development is acceptable. Interest in remote maintenance or remote monitoring systems is also required.

For mid-career candidates, the posting requires problem-solving ability, communication for specification coordination and explanations, small-scale leadership experience, the ability to involve stakeholders and move work forward, judgment with quality, delivery, and cost in mind, and experience developing team members. Experience developing on AWS or another cloud platform across design, implementation, and testing is required, as is experience considering operations such as logging, monitoring, and incident response.

Preferred experience includes completing application development, handling log data, developing applications or web systems, participating through testing and release, designing or implementing authentication and authorization controls, collaborating with external partners, leading requirements or specification work, and managing team progress or quality. Basic C#/.NET and AWS knowledge are listed for early-career candidates. Mid-career candidates should have basic security and authentication knowledge, experience designing and improving cloud systems, and experience driving development across multiple functions.

The position is full-time and based at Canon's Shimomaruko headquarters in Ota, Tokyo. Working hours are 8:30–17:00. Annual holidays total 125 days, with a two-day weekend system in principle, public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays, a May holiday period, and summer leave. Benefits include commuting and overtime allowances, social insurance, retirement benefits, a corporate pension, savings programs, an employee stock ownership plan, training, and other company facilities and programs. Annual salary is JPY 4.3–8.7 million; overtime pay is provided separately except when hired as a managerial supervisor. Salary terms are determined according to experience, ability, and company regulations.
