QA Engineer

THECOO is hiring a QA Engineer for Fanicon, a subscription-based premium fan community platform connecting fans with artists and other personalities. Fanicon launched in December 2017 and, as of December 2024, hosted more than 3,800 communities and 400,000 fans. The role supports the platform’s entertainment-related fan communities and its continued technical development.

The QA Engineer will design and implement comprehensive test plans and test cases for Android, iOS, and web products, aligning testing with the product vision. The role includes writing and maintaining automated test scripts, building robust automated regression suites, and improving the quality system rather than only identifying defects. The engineer will help develop a streamlined, AI-augmented QA pipeline and use automation frameworks and LLM-driven tools to make quality a continuous part of the process from initial product questions through deployment.

Applicants must have at least three years of professional QA experience with native mobile applications for Android or iOS, or with complex web platforms. Experience moving a project from manual QA to automated QA is required. Candidates must be proficient in at least one programming language and able to write and debug automated test scripts. A solid understanding of the mobile and web ecosystem, including the reasons behind testing strategies, is also required. Experience with AI productivity tools or a strong interest in using them to improve quality is expected.

Preferred experience includes server-side verification and digital rights management. Familiarity with GitHub Actions, Playwright, Espresso, or Appium is welcomed. The posting states that CircleCI is currently used and that familiarity with GitHub Actions is acceptable. The role also calls for clear communication of technical issues to engineers and non-technical stakeholders, constructive discussion of specifications, and suggestions for improvement during planning.

This is a full-time position with a six-month probationary period. The annual salary range is 5.5 million to 7.5 million JPY as a guideline, with possible adjustment based on experience, previous salary, and ability under company rules. Salary is revised once a year. The workplace is 2-34-17 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, in the Sumitomo Fudosan Harajuku Building, floors 9–11. The working arrangement is a discretionary labor system for professional work; the posting says most people typically work from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The scope-of-change notice allows company-determined work locations, including places where telework is performed, and reassignment to other work may occur.

Holidays and leave include Saturdays, Sundays, New Year holidays from December 29 to January 3, annual paid leave, sick leave, and maternity and paternity leave. Benefits include a commuting allowance, a book-purchase subsidy, and support for home internet installation and usage fees subject to conditions. Insurance includes health insurance, employee pension according to Japan standards, employment insurance, and workers’ accident compensation insurance. The selection process consists of resume screening, one to four interviews, and an offer. Business-level Japanese and English or higher are required.
