About this role
This role develops and operates the GREE SNS and GREE Platform systems. The engineer will manage project teams and lead members across projects while contributing to platform-wide development. Responsibilities include designing, developing and operating server-side systems and front-end features for end users, as well as APIs and web applications for game developers. The role also covers reviewing and refactoring system architecture for long-term service delivery and continuously improving system stability and scalability.
GREE has been operating for more than 15 years, and major system changes and the parallel construction of multiple systems are being planned to support continued service operation over the next five to ten years. The position supports a team responsible for rebuilding the operating environment at large scale and adapting the systems to changes in the business and technology. Collaboration with planners, art staff and other occupational groups is expected.
The stated development environment includes Linux, Apache, PHP and MySQL on the server side; HTML, JavaScript including jQuery and CSS on the client side; on-premises infrastructure together with AWS and GCP in a hybrid-cloud setup; and GitHub Enterprise. Required experience includes designing, developing and operating systems in a LAMP environment, developing and operating web services, project management or technical leadership, and using version-control tools such as Git. Preferred experience includes development or operations in AWS or GCP, taking at least one service from launch through release as the primary owner, refactoring code, data or infrastructure to reduce server load or improve response times, and creating tools to improve or automate work.
The role is a full-time permanent position with no fixed contract term. The annual salary range is JPY 5.5 million to JPY 10 million. Salary is monthly and includes an amount equivalent to 45 hours of overtime; additional overtime is paid. Salary is reviewed twice a year, and bonuses are determined twice a year based on company and individual performance. Transportation expenses are paid separately up to JPY 50,000 per month. The probationary period is three months.
The work location is in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. The current arrangement combines working from home three to four days per week with office attendance one to two days per week, depending on the department. Office attendance is expected for an initial period to support adjustment to the work and company culture. Working hours are 9:30 to 18:30, with eight working hours and a 60-minute break; discretionary labor may apply in specialist or planning roles. Holidays include two full weekend days off each week, public holidays, annual paid leave, summer and year-end holidays, condolence leave and family leave. Benefits include family work-from-home arrangements, family leave, babysitter assistance, reduced or staggered hours, and drink support. Health, employees' pension, employment and workers' compensation insurance are provided. The premises are non-smoking indoors, with an outdoor smoking area.
The selection process is expected to include a coding test, document screening, approximately two interviews, an aptitude test and an offer meeting if successful. Selection is planned to take place online, with at least one in-person meeting.
