Software Engineer

This is an open-position recruitment process for a Software Engineer. Based on an applicant’s experience, interests and preferences, the company may guide the applicant to a suitable engineering position.

The work covers development and operation of web applications and backend API servers. Listed possibilities include full-stack development for business-to-business and consumer-facing web products, development for the GO BUSINESS corporate taxi service, and backend development for GO’s payment and billing platform. Other internal product-development positions may also be available for new businesses. Engineers are expected to understand user problems and needs, discuss better experiences with others, and work on the product rather than simply implement instructions.

The products support mobility-related businesses. The GO taxi app is described as having a network of more than 1,100 taxi companies and more than 35 million downloads. The company is also developing a broader mobility platform that may include more complex services such as ride sharing, as well as new businesses in areas including green transformation and human resources.

Required experience includes approximately three or more years developing and operating web applications and their backend API servers. Frontend development experience is required for full-stack positions, and applicants should have the experience specified in the requirements of the relevant position. The posting describes company-wide use of generative AI by engineers and other employees. Named tools and services include GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Google Gemini, NotebookLM, Atlassian Rovo, Cursor, OpenAI Platform, Gemini/Vertex and AWS Bedrock. Uses include coding assistance, code review, test-code generation, debugging, documentation, translation, meeting summaries, email drafting, chatbots, summarization and content generation. Paid tool accounts and company payment or subsidies are available, and internal and external study sessions are held on generative AI.

Onboarding includes orientation on tools and rules, business-understanding sessions, a field-engineer experience involving taxi equipment and dispatch systems, meetings with company representatives, and a customer-support program. The assigned manager holds one-on-ones, and HRBP meetings take place after one and three months. Trainers, mentors and HRBP support the transition. The engineering organization supports book purchases, conference participation, technical blogs, YouTube TechTalks, study groups, event sponsorships, academic presentations and an Engineer Challenge Week that provides two weeks every six months for learning and skill development.

This is a full-time, indefinite-term position in Minato, Tokyo. Full remote work is permitted within Japan, with no designated number of office days; attendance may be required when the company specifies it, such as on the joining or leaving date. Working hours follow a super-flextime system with no core time, while scheduled workdays are generally worked. Days off include weekends, public holidays, paid leave, year-end and New Year holidays, bereavement leave, nursing-care leave and childcare-related leave.

Annual compensation is JPY 6,000,000–12,000,000, determined by skills and experience, and includes a fixed overtime allowance for 45 hours per month unless the employee is hired as a manager subject to supervision. Salary is revised twice yearly, with an annual performance-linked lump-sum payment. Transportation costs are covered up to JPY 50,000 per month. Benefits include social insurance, a taxi subsidy of up to JPY 10,000 per month, a monthly New Normal allowance of JPY 10,000, child allowances, welcome lunches, club activities and casual clothing. The office is smoke-free indoors, with a smoking room in the building. Duties and work locations may be changed to those designated by the company, including telework locations.
