Lead software development from requirements through release and maintenance, improve architecture and development processes, and support team growth across GO's mobility products. The role may involve hands-on implementation, people management, and generative AI adoption.
About this role
The Database Reliability Engineer will operate and improve the database platform supporting a mobility service. Working with multiple development teams, the role designs, builds, and enhances systems that enable stable and efficient operation of numerous databases used by services that support social infrastructure.
Responsibilities include standardizing database configurations across microservices, improving observability to detect performance limits early, establishing mechanisms to detect and address slow queries, preparing environments for efficient load testing, and automating and streamlining database version upgrades. The role also includes developing tools to support safe schema changes, evaluating next-generation databases, and creating backup-operation mechanisms that improve data safety.
The position belongs to the SRE Group in the Technical Strategy Department and works with SRE members to promote database operations and platform-wide standardization. The organization aims to provide database operations as a company-wide standardized platform rather than optimizing each service separately. An independent group parallel to the SRE Group is planned in the future.
Required experience includes at least three years operating MySQL or PostgreSQL in production, experience operating managed databases such as Aurora or Cloud SQL on AWS or GCP, and application development experience using a programming language. Desired experience includes a deep understanding of RDBMS replication, database parameter tuning in high-load environments, operating RDBMS in sharded configurations, operating NoSQL databases such as Redis or DynamoDB, and operating NewSQL databases such as Spanner, TiDB, or Aurora DSQL.
The environment includes AWS, GCP, Kubernetes with EKS and GKE, Istio, Grafana with Mimir, Loki, and Tempo, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and ArgoCD. The role supports a microservices architecture and emphasizes standardization, automation, and reusable platform capabilities.
The position is full-time and permanent, with no fixed contract period. Annual compensation is 9,000,000 to 12,000,000 JPY and includes a fixed overtime allowance for 45 hours per month, except for management-supervisor appointments. Salary is reviewed twice yearly, with a performance-linked lump-sum payment once yearly.
