Software Engineer / Forward-Deployed Engineer

About this role

This full-time Forward-Deployed Engineer / Software Engineer role leads customer-specific development projects for major Japanese companies using Speeda, an economic-information platform. Speeda's economic data is combined with customer-owned data and implemented in customer environments for use in day-to-day decision-making. Customers include financial institutions, major operating companies, and consulting firms. The customer-specific development business is in an early phase, and the role also involves defining effective ways of working as projects progress.

Responsibilities include evaluating feasibility with customers; defining and agreeing on scope and success criteria; designing system architectures within the constraints of customer environments; and designing and building data pipelines that transfer corporate finance, news, and disclosure data into those environments. The role also covers matching and reconciling customer-owned data, modeling data for analysis and search, driving development and implementation, production deployment, post-launch operations and maintenance, and coordinating across multiple customer departments while responding to internal reviews and approval processes. The scope of responsibility varies by project phase and size.

Required qualifications include approximately three or more years of professional experience developing web applications or data platforms, including design, implementation, code review, and operations. Candidates must have experience working directly with customers from requirements definition and agreeing on scope and deadlines. They must be able to work from the office and visit customer sites, communicate in Japanese at a native level, and have managed a small team of two to five people.

Preferred experience includes working with customers that have high security requirements, such as financial institutions, major operating companies, or consulting firms; building and operating pipelines for mixed structured and unstructured corporate or financial data; constructing systems in on-premises environments or customer cloud tenants; and handling security checklists, reviews of external service providers, or vulnerability assessments. The role suits candidates who want to decide with customers what to build, can begin work from unclear specifications by setting assumptions, can handle reviews, approval processes, and coordination across departments, and are interested in customers' actual business operations.

The standard backend stack is Kotlin and Spring Boot. The frontend stack is TypeScript and Next.js. Infrastructure uses Google Cloud and AWS, including customer tenants. Data stores include PostgreSQL and Snowflake. Data pipelines are built with workflow-management and data-transfer tools selected according to each customer's environment. Development tools include Slack, Google Workspace, Notion, Figma, GitHub, Docker, Datadog, Claude Code, Codex, and Devin. Customer review may determine whether these tools can be brought into a project.

The work location is the Marunouchi area of Chiyoda, Tokyo, and remote work is available. Working hours use a super-flextime system. The position is full-time with an annual salary range of 7,000,000 to 12,000,000 JPY; the final amount is determined based on experience and skills during the selection process. Holidays include Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, with at least 10 days of paid leave and a separate long-vacation benefit providing seven consecutive days twice a year, including weekends. Benefits include transportation costs up to 50,000 JPY per month, a company-provided PC selected from a catalog, and a reduced-hours system. Coverage is provided through the Kanto IT Software Health Insurance Society. The work location may change to the employee's home, the head office, or another company-approved location, and duties may change to any duties designated by the company. Smoking is prohibited in workspaces and permitted only in a designated smoking room; no work takes place in smoking-permitted areas.
