Web Application Engineer (Mid-to-Senior)

This full-time permanent role develops the web application for the MAT project, a new BtoBtoC business expanding Photosynth’s smart-lock services from corporate customers into the consumer market. The product is intended to make entire apartment buildings smart and is being developed in collaboration with lock manufacturer MIWA.

The engineer will work across backend and frontend development. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and operating backend APIs and features in Go; designing functions that include API design and data modeling; and designing and operating tables in relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL. Frontend work includes implementing features with React and TypeScript. The role also covers integration with the existing Akerun smart-lock platform, including the design and implementation of data and authentication connections.

Required experience includes designing, developing, and operating web applications; at least one year of Go development experience; at least one year of development experience with React and TypeScript; experience designing and operating tables using relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL; and experience owning functional design that includes API design and data modeling.

Preferred experience includes Ruby on Rails, API design using the OpenAPI or Swagger format, responding to web-service vulnerabilities through library updates and remediation of diagnostic findings, and operating SaaS web systems with responsibilities such as security, monitoring, and incident response. Team-building or team-lead experience is also welcomed, including leading issues from identification through resolution, developing team culture, and organizing development processes.

The development organization has approximately 150 people and operates hardware and software development, sales, marketing, customer success, and logistics functions in-house. Career paths include both management and specialist tracks. Engineers work under a discretionary labor system. The standard working hours are 9:30 to 18:30 with a one-hour break.

The work location is in Shiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Remote work is available, but full remote work is not offered; office attendance is generally required one day per week, with an office-centered arrangement also possible. Annual salary is 5.5 million to 8 million JPY, including a discretionary allowance equivalent to 45 hours of overtime, with additional payment for excess hours.
