Imaging Video Products Sensor and Image Processing Development Engineer

The role develops imaging technologies for Canon’s professional video products, including Cinema EOS cinema cameras, ENG cameras, IP remote cameras with pan-tilt-zoom capability, and high-sensitivity surveillance cameras. Work covers electrical hardware design for imaging systems, image sensor development and evaluation, sensor drive control, image processing, video output control, FPGA design, firmware design, AI design, and related patent activities.

Product development is performed within project teams in coordination with business, development, evaluation and production departments. Within development, electrical, mechanical and firmware teams collaborate on product specifications and implementation. Element-development activities include evaluating advanced CMOS and SPAD image sensors, assessing current FPGAs, and incorporating AI and deep-learning technologies into image-quality improvement.

Required experience varies by career stage. Candidates in their 20s need at least two years of practical experience in electrical design, FPGA design or software design, plus the ability to perform at least one of electrical circuit design, FPGA design, image-sensor evaluation, basic software using C, C++ or Python, or basic image processing under senior guidance. Candidates in their 30s need at least five years of experience in one of those design areas or image-sensor-related work, experience leading multiple members, and practical ability in electrical circuit design, FPGA design, image-sensor specification creation or evaluation, software implementation using C, C++ or Python, or image-processing implementation. Candidates in their 40s additionally need system-design and device-selection skills, technology-strategy planning, leadership of element-technology development, and experience managing product-development quality, cost and schedule.

Preferred experience includes electrical CAD such as Design Gateway, camera-product development, logic simulation tools such as Questa Sim, image-sensor characteristic measurement, embedded software, image processing, electrical-design team leadership, project management, FPGA SoC design, joint development with factories or overseas locations, mass-production launch leadership, external-partner collaboration, and new-business launches.

The position is based at Canon’s headquarters in Ota-ku, Tokyo. It is a permanent employee position with working hours of 8:30–17:00; some sites use 8:00–16:30. Annual holidays total 125 days, with a five-day workweek in principle from Saturday and Sunday. Training, seminars, OJT, mentoring, team study sessions and e-learning are available.
